The story of this design and furniture icon starts in 1938, when Antonio Bonet, an architect and town planner along with the architects Juanito Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy designed the BKF chair.
The BKF chair achieved its highest popularity thanks to Knoll and owes its name to the acronym from the first letter of each surname of the architects who afterwards would create the Austral Group.
The BKF chair also known as well as the Butterfly chair is a twenty century design cult object which is on display since 1944 in one of the most important contemporary art museum of the world, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) of New York as a part of its permanent collection thanks to Edgar Kaufman who also acquired a second unit for the “Fallingwater” house designed by architect Frank Lloyd.
