Set Of Eight Hand Carved French Style Dining Chairs By Karges. Beautifully crafted by one of the last great furniture names in the USA. Founded in the 19th century, Karges continues to manufacture furniture with solid hardwoods and exotic veneers, with many features and details done by hand. These chairs retail in the $25,000 plus range
This set is designed in the transitional French style that took place as Louis XV / Rococo transitioned to the more formal and austere Louis XVI style. The shape of the back and carved details are symmetrical, but still have some of the foliage-inspired flourishes of the rococo style.
As indicated by the sizes below, the two armchairs are slightly larger than the side chairs. The front facing portion of the chairs are covered on in a black, white and grey check, with the back inset panel being done in a coordinating floral stripe.
The set is in exceptional condition. Structurally perfect. The finish shows no signs of wear. We did note the area under the feet on the two armchairs looks to have been touched up - but very minor. The cushions and padding are firm and there is no breakdown in the foam. The fabric on the chairs is extremely clean with only some Minor scattered sporting. Nothing heavy or dense, and if the fabric is to your liking a professional cleaning would remedy this minor issue. No smoking, no pet home.

The armchairs are 41.5” tall. They are 18.5” wide at the back’s crest and 22.5” wide at the outside front of the arms. The seat is 17.5” wide at the back and 23” wide at the front. It is 17.5” deep and 18.5” high at the crown. The chair’s overall depth from front to back is appx. 22”.
Side chairs: The side chairs are 39” tall. They are 16.5” wide at the crest. The seats are 15.5” wide at the back and 19.5” wide at the front. They are 16.5” deep and 18.5” high. The chairs’ overall depth from front to back is appx. 21”.
